Finding A Work Life Balance
In an increasingly busy world there are many of us who feel overwhelmed, pressured and very short of time due to work, financial demands and family commitments, to pursue the things that would actually make us feel good. It takes effort to keep a focus on leisure and relaxation when there are other pressures. These pressures have a detrimental effect on our health. When we feel overwhelmed, tired or exhausted these are signs of excess stress.
Life needs equilibrium and in order to create the right one for us we need to plan for those activities that encourage mental and physical wellbeing, and that bring meaning and satisfaction to our lives.
According to psychologist Janet Taylor, five steps that can help to achieve your work/life balance are:
- This will allow you to see where you may be wasting time. Make a commitment to reduce the time spent on those activities so that you can find more time for those that are important.
- (work and personal), then schedule these into your week or month. Eliminate things in your daily life that do not bring satisfaction.
- By changing our attitudes and committing to change, we can begin to eliminate unnecessary financial, personal and social stress. Seek help from professionals where necessary.
- Introduce brain and energy foods into your diet. Make exercise a priority – see how good you begin to feel and feel your energy improve.
- Not only will this increase your energy but help you to remain mindful and develop a sense of balance in your day. Meditation can also bring about a change in the way we perceive life and situations we find difficult.
Everyone’s work/life balance is different, and it is important to find your own to create a fulfilling and healthy life. Bear in mind that change does take time and the initial steps are the hardest, however, with time the changes will easily become part of your life.
